Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by 7 wickets what was quite a crunch encounter in the T20 Tri-Series. Zimbabwe had come close to winning the game, but Pakistan’s captain Sarfraz Ahmed ensured victory for his nation with some clever moves as the matching drew to a close.
Zimbabwe were invited to bat first and their innings were replete with an enthusiasm for victory and a seemingly new-found edge for competitiveness. The new pair of Cephas Zhuwao and Solomon Mire provided Zimbabwe with a brilliant start. Their partnership posted 49 runs before Zhuwao was sent packing by Faheem Ashraf.
Solomon Mire kept marching on, impressively, providing a good spectacle for the fans. He lost skipper Masakadza when the latter was at 2 runs only, but another partnership with Tarisai Musakanda kept the scoreboard ticking.
Mire managed to get 94 runs, making him the highest scorer in Zimbabwe in a T20 International. And for that, he also got Player of the Match award. Zim set a total of 162-4.
Pakistan’s start was quite blistering, with Fakhar Zaman at his best attacking form, feeding off Tendai Chisoro’s balls. Hamilton Masakadza should have used less spin in the opening overs when Pakistan was now batting.
Things stalled for Pakistan a bit as Haris Sohail and Hussain Talat were dismissed. It was up to captain Sarfraz Ahmed to save the ship as Zimbabwe had come close to winning the match. He hit 38 runs off 21 balls.
Pakistan will now face Australia in the final on Sunday as Zimbabwe have been eliminated from the T20 Tri-Series.
