He has been likened to Jamie Vardy. Macauley Bonne, who is Leyton Orient striker, is set to give the Warriors a major boost in Egypt.

News is filtering through that Macauley Bonne has started the process of a Zimbabwean passport which means he is set to be part of the Warriors squad for Egypt. Sunday Chidzambwa previously wanted to use him in the course of the Afcon Qualifiers but his documents were not in place.

Bonne has already featured for the Warriors, in a dull 0-0 friendly against Lesotho. He has also played for the Warriors U-23 scoring in a 1-0 friendly against Morocco.

Bonne plays for Leyton Orient in the English National League. It may come as a downer to many football fanatics as questions will arise on the quality of opposition he is playing against in one of the lowest divisions in English football. However, his numbers are great –  bagging 21 goals and providing a further 4 to his teammates playing a major part in Leyton Orient’s push for automatic promotion.

It is this type of form which has got the rumour-mill linking him to the likes of Leicester City, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Newcastle United. Even championship clubs namely Stoke City, QPR and Sheffield United are keeping close tabs on him.

Background and Scout report

Bonne was born in Ipswich and started playing career in his hometown club Ipswich Town at the Under-8 age group. He moved to Norwich City in 2009 before moving joining Colchester United academy .

He moved up to the first team scoring 15 goals in 84 appearances for Colchester United.
He joined Leyton Orient in 2017 and scored 25 goals in 52 appearances in his first season.
Bonne can play either on the wing or lead the frontline. He possesses raw pace to run in behind defenders, chase lost causes to make things happen and a lethal finisher just like the striker he is compared to- Jamie Vardy.

If he is selected in the Afcon team, I hope it will be received in a positive manner by fans and teammates alike not as one who chose to join when qualification was secured and will provide options for the coach .
