South African based rapper Shonaman has delivered his new EP titled Rebels, that features the track High 5.
The EP has a total of ten tracks talking of God’s grace, power and how we need to worship Him always. The opening track is High 5, in which he enters a personal communication with God and gives him a “High 5.” The second track, which has the name of the EP is called Rebels. It’s a fast-paced track with intense rap, while still maintaining it’s religious theme.
The track In God I Trust is self-explanatory. It’s a clear exhortation to put trust in no one else except God. The instrumentals go in tandem with Shonaman’s intense rap. Tell You Something combines an Afro-pop beat and the usual rap beat to come up with something worth listening to. It has a Nigerian touch, which is befitting the love-themed song.
Shut the World Down does not deviate from the rest of the songs and speaks of ambitious hopes and how nothing will put a stop to these hopes and dreams. It’s a voice that has to be echoed everywhere. A motivational song that uplifts one’s spirit. The track Na Gad is testimony to Shonaman’s versatility with different kinds of beats. Other tracks include Victory, PWYP, Miss World and House of the Lord.
Shonaman’s style is impressively coherent in a way that leaves you yearning for more of his rap. Interestingly, his songs are in English. The way he maintains his gospel theme is marvellous especially for young people seeking spiritual music that goes in line with hip hop.
