It seems as if Peter de Villiers is no longer being loved as the Zim rugby coach. Things could be getting messy.
A report carried by Sunday Mail seemed to show as if the exit door is imminent for Peter de Villiers, the former Springboks coach, and it is reported Collin Osborne could be replacing him. Osborne recently quit as the assistant coach of English Premiership side Harlequins in July.
When de Villiers signed a two-year contract in February, we was tasked with the sole mission of helping Zimbabwe qualify for the Rugby World Cup to be held in 2019. However, the Sables failed to qualify for the 2019 Rugby World Cup because of dismal performances exhibited in the Africa Gold Cup.
And now, Zimbabwe Rugby Union president Losson Mtongwiza, former Sables coach Godwin Murambiwa as well as former captains Costa Dinha and Max Madziva are believed to be part of the anti-de Villiers camapign.
Leaked WhatsApp messages from a person believed to be Mtongwiza were seen by media, and it was quite nasty.
“I f…d up. I also f…d up in thinking PDV was good for us. We will have to correct those positions musiyei apedze (Let him finish the current campaign),” reads the message alleged to be from the ZRU vice president.
Dinha is alleged to have said, “We wer (sic) in shit from the moment we lost to bluebulls u20 and panic buttons should have been pressed then.”
They of course deny the messages. But sources privy to the Zimbabwe Rugby Union and the whole dissatisfaction with PDV have confirmed the messages are true.
Is PDV now leaving the Sables? Is he now despised to this alleged extent? And, is Osborne replacing him?
